Job Description: Raytheon is seeking an experienced candidate for our Systems, Integration and Test (SEIT) Engineer position who will join our team in maintaining the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Common Ground System (CGS), a state-of-the-art ground station for the next generation of low earth orbiting environmental satellites. This system provides global coverage, monitors environmental conditions, collects, disseminates and processes data about the Earth's weather, atmosphere, oceans, land and near-space environment. The JPSS SEIT Engineer on the Deployment Team will perform engineering tasks ensuring CGS subsystems function together within dynamic systems maintenance cycles supporting an operational ground system. The successful candidate for this position will possess at least 4 years of Systems Engineering experience with some of that supporting satellite ground system operations in a multi-disciplinary team environment. In addition to the primary role of troubleshooting systems integration issues and testing new system builds, one must bring a quick-response mindset to support investigation of anomalies on the deployed operational system as they arise, along with determining the CGS system configuration changes and fixes necessary to resolve them. The team member will be required to interact with a wide range of program personnel, working both collaboratively with teammates and independently to complete specific tasks. Additional tasks include attending technical interchange meetings, representing the organization in matters pertaining to one’s area(s) of CGS responsibility, documenting system issues and resolutions, providing input to standard operating procedures and other technical guidance, reviewing documents, and providing status on assigned tasks. The CGS is a large, complex, and geographically distributed system and SEIT Deployment Team members depend on each others’ expertise in different subsystems to solve problems, so fluid communication, cooperation and cohesion among all team members is a requirement for success. Required Skills: Minimum of 4 years Systems Engineering experience Experience with satellite ground operations Experience troubleshooting software systems Experience with software integration Experience with computers, storage, and networking technologies Excellent oral and written communication Ability to successfully communicate essential technical information to those outside of one’s particular engineering discipline or area of expertise Ability to adapt to rapidly changing tasking direction Ability to manage time and resources in order to meet assigned deadlines Availability to travel US Citizenship status is required as this position will need a US Secret Security Clearance within 1 year of start date Desired Skills: Experience with shell scripting or other scripting languages such as Perl Experience troubleshooting hardware systems Experience with systems integration verification and validation (IV&V) Familiarity with the software development life cycle Required Education (including Major): Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college. Prefer Engineering or related discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Physics, Math), but other majors will be considered depending on strength of work experience. This position requires the ability to obtain a government security clearance.
